Hillsdale, OR

Tucked into the Hillsdale neighborhood of SW Portland, this 6’ x 7’ custom sauna was designed for a Danish homeowner seeking a true traditional sauna experience. The compact footprint was carefully engineered to fit within a tight site — just 8 inches from a concrete retaining wall — with the entire structure built on heavy-duty casters so it could be finished and placed precisely in its semi-permanent home.

The exterior features vertical paneling in satin charcoal paint to match the residence, accented by a wall of clear vertical-grain Western Red Cedar heartwood. Inside, stadium-style benches rise into the löyly zone, with two seating levels and a step for easy access to the hottest air. A HUUM 9kW WiFi-enabled heater anchors the sauna, combining timeless heat with modern convenience.

Unique details include exposed soffits with rafter accents, an open-air cold shower with a copper rain head for authentic contrast therapy, and a fully custom cedar-wrapped cold plunge currently in progress. This project not only delivers a deeply traditional sauna experience but also sets the foundation for a new Good Heat Sauna Co. model — a design we’ll soon offer as a customizable, deliverable option for future customers.
